European Parliament Office

The Lobbying procedure will take place in the most fitting of all places; the European Parliament Office in Athens. Any citizen who needs to contact the representatives of Greece to the European Parliament or needs information about the EP can visit the EP office. In 1974 the building became officially listed, which means that it cannot be demolished or altered without special permission.

The European Parliament is half of the EU’s legislative authority (jointly with the Council). It amends and adopts EU legislation and the budget. The members of the European Parliament get elected every 5 years by the EU citizens. There are currently 751 MEPs.

The Acropolis

The morning before the start of lobbying, delegates and teachers will visit the Acropolis.

The Acropolis consists of four main temples, the most prominent of which is the Parthenon. They were built in the late 5th century by the great political figure of the time Pericles. The Acropolis has often been invoked as a key symbol of the Greek legacy and of the glories of Classical Greece.

The Acropolis in Athens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been awarded the European Heritage Label. On top of that, it was a runner-up for the new 7 wonders of the world, competing, in architecture and prestige, against the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, the Colosseum in Italy and the Machu Picchu in Peru among others.
